Signs of Rodents in Your Home

Rodents may be portrayed as cute and lovable in mainstream media, but as any homeowner knows, the reality of a rodent infestation is anything but cute.
So, if you smell a rat (both literally and metaphorically), you’re in the right place. Here are the top 4 signs that you may have a rodent problem in your home that needs some professional attention.
Droppings or urine stains
Rodent excrement is one of the more obvious indications of rodents in your home. Mouse droppings are brown and about the size of a grain of rice. They are usually found in the backs of drawers and cabinets, under sinks, or other areas a rodent could easily hide. Urine stains are more difficult to spot, but they can usually be found in similar areas. In large amounts, rodent urine can also give off an ammonia-like odor.
Holes in food packaging
As it gets colder outside, rodents flock indoors in search of warmth, shelter, and food that they are unable to find in their natural environment. Once they find your pantry, rodents will gnaw through anything to get to your food, leaving behind bite marks and small holes in food packages.
Holes and gaps in walls
Mice and rats can easily fit through holes or gaps as small as ¼ an inch (about the circumference of a pencil eraser) by stretching or compressing their bodies. If a hole or gap is too small for them to fit through, they will not hesitate to gnaw through walls until the hole is big enough.
Noises coming from the walls
As rodents navigate through the interior of your home, you may be able to hear noises described as thumping or scratching. Any odd noises that can be traced to the walls or concealed areas can likely be attributed to a rodent infestation.
